About SliceDex
NYC's living pizza slice price index
I'm a New Yorker who got tired of not knowing whether I was getting ripped off for a slice. A plain cheese slice should cost what it costs β but prices vary wildly across the city, and nobody was tracking them.
So I built SliceDex: an AI-powered index of plain cheese slice prices at pizza shops across all five boroughs. Every shop in the database was called by Heather, an AI voice agent I built on ElevenLabs. Heather dials each shop, asks the price of a plain cheese slice, and the transcript is processed by Claude to extract the price.
The index is a living document. Heather keeps calling, and anyone who grabs a slice can contribute a price directly β no account needed, just a shop and a number. Community submissions show up in the changelog alongside Heather's calls in real time.
How it works
π Google Places API β shop discovery across all NYC neighborhoods
π ElevenLabs + Twilio β Heather places outbound calls to each shop
π€ Claude (Anthropic) β extracts the price from each call transcript
ποΈ Supabase β stores shops, prices, and call history
πΊοΈ Mapbox β renders the interactive price map
Built by Juan Pablo Jaramillo, a student at NYU Stern. Inspired by The Guinndex, Matt Cortland's brilliant project that called every pub in Ireland to track the price of a pint of Guinness.
SliceDex is not affiliated with any pizza shop. Prices are estimates and may not reflect current menu prices.
